#OrkSciFest livestreaming - Day 3

This year's attempts to livestream as much of the Orkney Science Festival as possible is an experiment, and it was only decided to try to do so a couple of days before the event. So it is perhaps not surprising that we are having constant issues with the process! The main challenge on Day 3 was that the public wifi at the venue (very fast, synchronous, and hassle-free though it had been until them) failed. So once again, we had to record the sessions as live, and upload them later - given that the recording device has been required during nearly all waking hours to record the next session, there has been a couple of days of delay in getting the hours and hours of video uploaded!

There were some interesting discussions with presenters on Day 3, though, as we asked permission on behalf of the Festival to webcast material they were about to present. There are reasons to have legitimate concerns about having one's presentation webcast to the world, and it was good to learn about some of those from Festival participants. One of the sessions on Day 3 was an excellent spoof tutorial from "theoretical Zombieologist" Doctor Smith, of the Zombie Institute for Theoretical Studies (sponsored by The Wellcome Trust and the University of Glasgow). This show^H^H^H^H seminar on an extremely serious area of science in the 21st century is currently touring the remoter areas of Scotland (presumably because it in remote places such as Orkney that the zombie threat is greatest), so make sure you go to see it if it comes to a community hall near you! The Festival will continue to negotiate with Doctor Smith and his Institute of Zombiology to identify those parts of his talk which can safely be shared as online video with those of you in more populated areas of Scotland (and elsewhere).

In the meantime, Doctor Smith asks that you prepare yourself for any zombie event near you by consulting the Institute's facebook page.

The intention had been to webcast (or record) a flavour of all the events where presenters were willling for that to happen, but please accept our apologies for not making it to the excellent Family Day: there was just too much going on to be covered by one amateur and slightly incompetent camera operator! (It also proved beyond us to make it to any events at all in Stromness - we really must do better, and get ourselves out of Kirkwall more!)
