Orkney ICT Forum
... now known as the digitalOrkney Forum
... so this page is mainly left here for historical interest! From 2014 onwards, please visit the digitalOrkney webpage.
Membership
The membership is anticipated to be (but is not restricted to) Orkney-based web developers and IT professionals, in the private, public and third sectors. The forum was started as a free subscription mailing list (details below), with the hope (around 2005) of developing it into a more formal active independent trade grouping if interest merits it. Hope springs eternal ....
Goals
Steven Heddle, while working for Orkney Enterprise (now part of Highlands & Islands Enterprise) set up the Forum mailing list for members to:
- share news (e.g. opportunities, outbreaks of computer viruses etc.)
- share ideas
- share best practice
- identify common goals
- identify common problems
- pool resources
- use to communicate any other relevant information
Administration
The list is moderated and administered by Steven Heddle and Sweyn Hunter (who both fulfil this role as private individuals, and not as part of any employment they may have). You can join the list by mailing orkneyictforum-request@freelists.org with 'subscribe' in the subject field. If you wish to leave the list, 'unsubscribe' in the subject field will do the trick. Only list members may post to the list.
This and other simple administrative tasks may be achieved using the form below.
Enter your email address:
More complex administrative operations (setting up digests, vacation periods etc.) may be carried out by logging in here.
This list is provided free using open source software, courtesy of www.freelists.org. If you experience any difficulties subscribing or using the list, please contact ictforum@orkneyenterprise.co.uk .
Note that when signing up to the list you should use the email address that you will be using when posting messages- this may be an issue if you are using an email forwarding service. If you post a message, and don't receive a copy from the list yourself (allowing time for moderation), then nobody else has...
Posting a message
Simply send a message to orkneyictforum@freelists.org
Replying to a message from the Orkney ICT Forum
By default, your reply to a message from the ICT Forum will go to everyone in the forum, but only after being approved by a moderator - who may (no guarantees) check with you if your message seems to be "not-for-publication"!. If you wish to reply off-list, check the 'To:' field in your message, and make sure it contains your intended recipients before sending.
Archives
Message archives for each month sorted by date and thread are available at www.freelists.org/archives/orkneyictforum.
Archives of meeting materials such as presentations are available here.
