A tall tale about Social Media Week, BBC Radio 4, and an excuse for a mid-week drink

In honour of fact that this week is Social Media Week, the people who bring you the BBC Radio 4 blog have arranged a tweetup in London (that's a Twitter meetup, an informal gathering organised on Twitter) on Thursday 4 February at 1930 in the vicinity of Broadcasting House, Radio 4's central London home - for full details, make sure you are following @radio4blog, and keeping up with the #R4tweetup hashtag on twitter. Lucky people who can travel to London to join in will (some of them) get the chance to tour Broadcasting House!

It seems, though, that many will be severely challenged in making the (in some cases very long) journey to join in the fun, and the people at the BBC Radio 4 blog have suggested that other "regional and national" tweetups might spring into life around the country. By chance, @dragonhistory had already arranged a meeting to plot and plan towards re-establishing an Orkney Storytelling Festival in October 2010, and we thought we should kill two birds with one stone by throwing this open to any Radio 4 listeners who might wish to join us for a drink and a blether, even though it will happen well after the excitement of Social Media Week has died down in most other places! Maybe we can persuade Radio Orkney to give us a tour of the Castle Street studio - watch this space!

We hope we have picked a time and place that will suit everyone -

• well after the Six O'Clock News,
• at a time allowing fans of The Write Stuff (and/or BBC Radio Orkney's evening programme) either to listen before rushing out the door, or to listen on the way
• devotees of The Archers can catch up the next day after the news at 2 o'clock (or by listening to the Sunday omnibus)
• probably Front Row will just be reviewing things on in far away places
• anyone who wants to listen to A History of the World in 100 Objects or (God forbid, Moral Maze) can probably get back home in time
